Weee!

I've been enjoying learning and practicing spinning, however, I must say, my first spun and plied yarn has quite a lot of character!

Before you laugh, you must realize the possibilities it holds! Think of all the funky stuff one can knit with it!

Luckily, that was terrible roving I was working with, and as soon as I switched to better roving, it seemed nearly perfect! See for yourself!

This yarn will be used to make the Brea Bag from www.berroco.com, and I'm super excited for it. I think I will have to spend the rest of the afternoon playing with dyes and measuring out how much yarn there actually is on that bobbin. Much adventures to be had!

Until next time...

A Work in Progress.

Finally! My first attempt at spinning! And here's the final result!

Now once you're done laughing, let's take a moment to discuss this. The woman who was teaching me, Bonnie, is very nice. Too old to talk on the phone with, but pleasant to speak to in person. And she has a huge bag of bad roving that she let's new people come in an learn on. So I am going to credit most of that mess to the bad roving. (Although we all know that no one's good on the first try.)

The biggest issue I seemed to have was that I kept forgetting to let the yarn spin onto to bobbin, so it would bunch up and create chaos. However, I think I understand it enough that soon I'll be able to overcome this.

Bonnie's store is a small building next to her home full of tons of yarn and other knit things. She has a couple of antique sock making machines that were used to make socks for soldiers during WWI, which I went gaga over. I'll post pictures of those another time.

The other ladies who were there were very nice and offered to give me rides to the weekly meetings, so hubby wouldn't have to sit through it. (Although, he had fun too, and I secretly think he wants to try it!) The are all planning a trip down to the Maryland whatever festival that kraftie was telling me about, and if it weren't for bad timing, I'd totally be there.

I'm totally going back next week.

Testing...testing, 1 2 3!

Is this thing on? *taps mic*

Welp, this is my first attempt at a blogspot, and I must say, it's going ok so far. I probably will not use this to rant, report, or in any other way blab about my life, unless it has something to do with knitting!

Current Projects:
-Pomatomus (fingerless gloves version): From Knitty. It was going ok, but now that I'm more familiar with the pattern I've decided to start over.
-Ines Socks: From Berroco. I love these socks!
-Brea Bag: Also from Berroco. For my best friend, and quite a cute purse if I do say so myself!

In other news, I got a wheel! It's an Ashford traditional, and in good condition. As soon as I get some fiber, I'll start spinning! Here it is:

I'm super thrilled about it and the patterns I've been working on and will soon start. My knitting skills have improved over this last year, and I'm excited to think about what I will knit next. But now I must be off, I've so much knitting to do!
